Pets at Home, through Vets 4 Pets, has managed to harness the UK’s passion for its pooches by offering free puppy parties – and these have proved a roaring success! As retailers look for creative ways to drive footfall to stores and build long-term loyalty with customers we think many could learn from Pets at Home’s approach.

Anyone arriving uncertain about what to expect is quickly put at ease by welcoming staff, on hand to answer any questions and offer advice/tips. Within this safe environment each puppy is allowed off the lead to play (read: *go nuts!*). Owners get to chat with other puppy lovers and can even take part in a quiz testing their puppy knowledge. Afterwards the team offer behind-the-scenes tours of the consultation and operating rooms – privileged access that helps participants feel part of something more special.​

​Every dog gets to take home a party bag including information on healthcare and basic obedience training; along with a certificate of completion. This leaves the owners feeling satisfied while the puppies themselves are even more excited at the possibility of being able to keep the toy they’ve just played with – all of which are available to buy in Pets at Home. Very clever!

All in all this is a lovely experience for pet lovers and a great opportunity for Pets at Home to kick-start strong relationships with customers.
