Senior Data Analyst

Permanent  & FTC, Full-Time, St Albans

£26k - £29k  plus bonus and other benefits

Fantastic opportunity to join a successful research agency

  • ABA Market Research Ltd works with many of the UK’s leading brands – from John Lewis, M&S and Asda, to River Island, and Arcadia

  • ABA is proud to have won recent MRS and AURA awards following nominations from our clients, including Agency of the Year 2017 & Trusted Advisor 2018  – evidence of our high standing in the industry

  • ‘ABAers’ not only enjoy this success but also use their expertise for the wider good – helping to run our shop, ‘Raindrops on Roses’, whose profits all go to charity

  • We are looking for a Senior Data Analyst with the drive to work on challenging and high-profile projects

  • You will be given responsibility from early on and have a mandate to innovate and find your own way

  • Your commitment will be matched with the encouragement and support needed to maximise your potential

Develop your technical and management skills while still getting hands-on experience with data processing techniques

  • You’ll be joining a close-knit team responsible for extracting, processing and transforming data collected through market research into a variety of outputs, from Excel tables to dynamic reporting dashboards

  • You’ll be enhancing your skills in data processing for quant research: scripting surveys and running data tables – seeking out best practice to efficiently produce complex outputs to match specifications

  • You’ll be working across various pieces of technical software, providing logical and efficient solutions to problems, and designing and building new processes

  • From early on, you’ll be given responsibility for project managing data processing for high profile clients

  • You will also be involved in supporting the training/mentoring and workload management of more junior team members

  • You’ll have the opportunity to directly line manage members of the team, being responsible for their progress and development opportunities, supporting their growth and helping them do a great job

  • You’ll input into the future direction of the team, with opportunities to build new techniques, test new software, and help define the best ways of integrating new challenges into our work

  • You will work closely with multiple teams in the business, from the Insight researchers to the IT Development team to get complex projects up and off the ground

  • You will have the opportunity to grow and develop within the team, perhaps working on statistics/analytics, working with Tibco Spotfire to produce complex reporting dashboards for our clients, or continued development of leadership and management skills

We’re seeking a combination of energy, adaptability and accuracy

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a data processing team – preferably in a market research firm, including:

    • scripting online surveys using routing and piping to ensure the best respondent experience, with a detailed knowledge of any industry standard software (eg: Snap Surveys, Confirmit, Askia, or similar)

    • cleansing data and producing complex data tables from specifications using any industry standard software (eg: QPSMR, Merlin, Snap Surveys, or similar)

    • experience working with a bulk email service provider (such as SendGrid or SmartFocus) desirable but not essential

  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and VBA for Excel are absolutely essential – be able to process large amounts of data confidently using a variety of functions and formulas (including logical, text, reference and nested formulas); as well as being able to write and debug dynamic, best practice macros from scratch to automate manual tasks

  • Knowledge of any of the following a bonus but not essential: Spotfire, R, SPSS

  • Keen aptitude to identify process improvements and efficiencies, and the tech knowledge to find, build and test an automated and dynamic solution; or help more junior team members do the same

  • Capacity to plan and prioritise effectively in order to manage your own and others’ work across multiple clients and projects to tight deadlines

  • Ability to work in a thorough, precise manner - display excellent attention to detail and a good eye for anomalies

  • A great team player – as you’ll often be sharing complex tasks – but also willing to get your head down and work independently where needed

  • Fantastic communications skills – comfortable and patient explaining technical problems to a less technical audience and keen to work with internal clients to produce the best possible outputs, developing great relationships through ongoing dialogue

  • Keenness to develop people management skills – including training, mentoring, and managing ongoing performance and career development of more junior team members

  • Above all, this role is about having energy, rigorous thinking and a genuine thirst for doing a great job
