Head of Cluster

Based in St Albans or Leeds

Role Purpose

  • Head of Cluster is accountable for managing a significant proportion of the ABA Research P&L, building client plans and supporting business development activities to ensure the delivery of both revenue and profit targets

  • Working alongside the Insight Director, they will develop compelling plans for their roster of clients, continually looking for ways that ABA can make an impact to the clients’ businesses and growing key accounts as a result

  • They will lead a team of skilled Insight professionals of all levels (from graduate to RD) and will ensure the optimal allocation of resources to deliver exceptional work within agreed revenue and profit targets

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities 

  • Relationship management – building strong and commercially successful relationships with key senior level client contacts

  • Client planning – building strong plans for each client within the cluster, demonstrating a clear understanding of the business context and the challenges for ABA

  • P&L management – delivering against these client plans to ensure the effective delivery of work against agreed targets

  • Best practice and quality standards – ensuring that key client deliverables are produced to the ABA standards laid out by the Insight Director

  • Research rigour – ensuring ABA produces high quality insight based on sound methodologies and ensuring appropriate quality procedures are followed across the team

  • Brilliant thinking – willing to challenge the norms and look for new ways to deliver better deliverables for ABA clients and/or to drive efficiencies on accounts

  • Business development – leading on proposals allocated to cluster by the Business Development Director and ensuring appropriate sign-offs are obtained

  • Resource allocation – appropriately allocating resource from within the cluster to deliver high quality work and deliver against the client plans (revenue and profit targets)

  • Leadership, talent and performance management – effectively lead and line manage the cluster to ensure that clear objectives, development and succession plans are in place across the team

  • Knowledge sharing – working collaboratively with other cluster leads to ensure that best practice standards are maintained across ABA

Critical Experience and Knowledge

  • An experienced research professional with a proven track record of having run successful large research teams, either agency or client-side

  • Strong relationship builder who is able to interact with senior client stakeholders

  • Strong team leader with experience of both coaching and mentoring leadership styles

  • Cross functional worker – able to work effectively with key support functions to deliver brilliant work for our clients
