ALISON BAINBRIDGE //
Alison’s roots are a long way from the boardroom – being the daughter of a Lancashire farmer. She started ABA in 1994. Initially the company focussed on the UK fashion sector but then soon diversified – whilst always retaining its retail focus. Today ABA has offices in St Albans and Leeds plus a large portfolio of loyal, blue-chip clients.
Away from the day job, Alison lends her expertise to the running of the St Albans charity shop, Raindrops on Roses, which she created in 2012. This sells new, often locally sourced products and donates all profits to cancer-related causes.
DR PAUL MARSDEN //
Dr Paul Marsden is a chartered psychologist specialising in human wellbeing and technology. Paul works with brands and agencies on innovations and campaigns designed to promote happiness. He was co-founder of one of the first agencies to apply Artificial Intelligence in marketing (Brainjuicer, now System1 PLC), using machine learning to identify new campaign themes that will have emotional resonance.
Paul lectures in psychology and marketing at the London College of Fashion (University of the Arts, London), and is author of a number of successful business books including Connected Marketing and The Social Commerce Handbook. A reformed bodybuilder, Paul is a diving fanatic and unconditional fan of the NBA’s Miami Heat.

THE EMPATHY BUSINESS
Belinda Parmar is the CEO of The Empathy Business and pioneer of the world’s first empathy index. Currently ‘Empathy-In-Residence’ at Barclays Bank, her work has seen new empathy departments being created in global companies. Belinda is also founder of the Little Miss Geek campaign; an initiative designed to inspire girls to become technology pioneers.
In 2014, Belinda was appointed a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. In the same year she was awarded an OBE for bringing more women into the UK’s technology industry. Belinda is the author of The Empathy Era and Little Miss Geek.

Tre Azam is founder and CEO of MyndPlay, a UK-based Brain Tech and Media Company specialising in brainwave and sensor technology and interactive video; creating immersive experiences that entertain, engage and develop the mind.
As a part-time lecturer in Innovation and partner to some of the world’s largest agencies,
Tre is experience in applying the technology across multiple platforms and industries, from training pro athletes and senior leaders to creating award-winning mind-controlled gaming and experiences for major brands. Tre has a passion for ideas and innovation plus a key interest in commercialisation.
Having joined ABA in 2013 as part of its Graduate Scheme, Amy is now a Research Manager and, undoubtedly, one of the company’s rising stars. Naturally curious and enthusiastic, she loves to consider fresh perspectives – detecting and unpicking new trends in the retail world.
Amy is a member of MRS Young Researchers and was recently invited to speak at Impact 2018, where she shared her views on how the role of Insight will need to evolve in the years ahead.

Richard started his career as a furniture designer and has over 17 years’ retail experience. He joined Dalziel & Pow in 2001, leading several teams in their work with brands across the globe.
Richard has acted as creative lead for a number of award-winning and sector-defining retail experiences. His special skills are in creative brand development and aligning aspirations with the executional details that deliver commercial results.

INITION is a technology innovation agency in London and a company at the forefront of developing solutions that employ immersive technologies such as AR, VR, MR and haptics. Adrian has spent the last 20 years in different media, software and advanced technology businesses, from small start-ups to large public companies – in positions ranging from Head of Innovation to CTO and MD, and sometimes as an investor.
Adrian is always excited about new advances in communication technologies. He’s been at the forefront of these during his career and recognises the ones that make a long-lasting impact.
NICK BONNEY //
Nick became MD of ABA in February 2017, bringing with him huge experience from both sides of the client/agency line. He began his career in research with spells at NOP, RDSi and Maritz, and then moved to Orange in 1999. Here he was fortunate enough to work on the launch of the brand in 14 countries and was part of the team that launched the 4G mobile brand EE. Nick then headed up Insight at The National Lottery.
Since joining retail experts ABA, Nick has greatly enhanced client-side understanding and ensured that strong partnerships remain central to the company ethos.
LAURA GILLESPIE //
Laura joined ABA in 2010 as part of the Graduate Scheme and has since risen rapidly to become a Research Director, running one of our insight teams. A lover of all things retail, Laura leads many of ABA’s key accounts.
Laura has a passion for innovative thinking and her skills here have been integral to the development of ABA's propositions – her contribution to the industry being recognised when she was awarded MRS Best Newcomer in 2015.

BLOGGER AND MODEL
Based in London, Kitty is not only a model and blogger but also a presenter and body positivity advocate. She is an ambassador for The Body Confidence Revolution, an online collective that seeks to dismantle the current societal narrative around our bodies and teach people to love themselves rather than hate the way they look.
This message underpins all of Kitty’s work and advocacy; whether she’s challenging the status quo via Instagram or wearing crop tops when society says her body type means she shouldn’t!

Female Narratives is a London-based creative agency and collective of almost 100 female freelancers, who create cross-platform content and events for brands by telling real women’s stories. It is co-founded and run by models-turned-producers with connections across the verticals of film, fashion, design, travel and technology.
They have a passion for making female voices louder by unifying these and giving them a space to be heard.

FREE THE FRESHER
Makaela Richardson is a young entrepreneur and Founder/CEO of Free the Fresher. Founded in 2016, this is an e-commerce business, designed for students, which delivers everything they need for the beginning of their university lives – all at a nominal fee. The subscription service delivers stationery, kitchenware, bedding and even hangover kits direct to student doors,
and also offers exclusive discounts with major names such as Nando’s and Topshop.
Makaela established Free the Fresher whilst studying Business and Economics at the University of Greenwich. Two years on, the business now has 30 employees and holds 20% of the UK student market.
Q&A WITH JILL EASTERBROOK
Jill is Chief Executive of Boden and also a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Auto Trader. She was previously a member of the Executive Committee at Tesco PLC where she held a variety of strategic and operational leadership roles.
Jill started her career at Marks & Spencer in buying and merchandising, and also spent time as a management consultant with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.

DEBORAH FRANCES-WHITE //
Deborah is a comedian whose BBC Radio 4 series, Deborah Frances-White Rolls the Dice, won The Writers' Guild Award for Best Radio Comedy in 2016. Her second series has recently aired. Her comedy podcast The Guilty Feminist has had 18 million downloads in 18 months and has been recorded live in the U.K., Australia, Denmark and the US. She also hosts the diversity-based panel show podcast, Global Pillage.
Deborah is a screenwriter who’s had commissions from the BBC and Channel 4. Her first feature film, Say My Name, came out in Summer 2017. She co-wrote The Improv Handbook, which is a theatre bestseller that has just gone into second edition, and is currently writing a ‘Guilty Feminist’ book for Virago. Deborah regularly speaks in business about diversity and inclusion and her clients include Facebook, LinkedIn and Microsoft.
